The UK Renal Pharmacy Group (UKRPG) has updated its vaccination and immunisation guidance for people with chronic kidney disease (CKD), those receiving dialysis and kidney transplant patients.
The updated guidance includes changes to the recommendations and an updated vaccine table for renal and transplant patients.
Key updates for Summer 2026
- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) – from 1 September 2026, RSV vaccination will be expanded to include adults aged 65–74 in certain clinical at-risk groups, including people who are immunosuppressed.
- COVID-19 – the updated table reflects changes to eligibility for people with CKD and those receiving dialysis, with vaccination now recommended for individuals aged over 75 as part of the national programme. Recommendations for immunosuppressed and transplant patients are also included.
The guidance also covers influenza, pneumococcal, shingles, hepatitis B, HPV, chickenpox and measles vaccination across different renal and transplant patient groups.
Patients with nephrotic syndrome, CKD stages 4 and 5 and those receiving dialysis or with a kidney transplant should be vaccinated at diagnosis and subsequently in line with the Green Book vaccination schedule.

Renal pharmacy teams are encouraged to review local vaccine protocols, support patient education and coordinate with renal, dialysis and transplant services to ensure eligible individuals are protected.
