Nominations are now open for some of the most significant awards and lectures in the kidney community. These honours represent career milestones - marking individuals out as leaders among peers, strengthening professional standing, and providing a platform to influence the direction of kidney care.
Leadership, legacy & opportunity
At the forefront are two particularly resonant accolades:
-
O’Donoghue Lecture
Named in honour of Professor Donal O’Donoghue OBE, hailed as a “titan of UK nephrology and medicine” and the first National Clinical Director for Kidney Care in England, this lecture celebrates leadership and influence in policy, workforce and training. His sudden passing in January 2021 left a void felt deeply across the community; this lecture perpetuates his legacy of innovation and patient-centred advocacy. -
Raine Award
Instituted in memory of Professor Tony Raine, this award recognises junior investigators (not yet at consultant grade or senior lecturer level) whose research has made a notable impact. It’s a respected early-career marker, often presented at UK Kidney Week by Dame June Raine herself, further connecting laureates to wider professional achievement.
Honours across the spectrum
Alongside those named above, nominations are also welcomed for an array of lectures and awards that reflect the full breadth of kidney-related expertise:
-
The UKKA Lifetime Achievement Award: Honours enduring contributions across clinical care, education, research, and leadership.
-
Chandos Lecture: Open to all members; any kidney-related topic is welcome.
-

-

All these honours collectively celebrate achievement across science, clinical care, policy, education and multi-professional practice.
