This webinar will explore how to build trust and encourage participation from underrepresented communities in health research.
Designed for people who recruit participants to research projects in the UK, the session will cover:
- What cultural intelligence means in practice and why it matters
- Barriers that can prevent people from non-White backgrounds from taking part in research
- Case studies and practical approaches to increase confidence in inclusive recruitment led by community experts
- How to create accessible, accredited patient information
Speakers:
Dr Kate Bramham
Dr Kate Bramham, Consultant Nephrologist at King’s College Hospital and Reader at King’s College London, is a passionate leader in tackling health inequalities in kidney disease. She champions research that ensures African-ancestry communities are represented and their voices are central to discovery and care. “For Black History Month, we want to introduce culturally intelligent training across RaDaR sites because understanding cultural context is key to trust, engagement, and truly inclusive research,” she says.
Ms Roseline Agyekum
Community Kidney Nurse Researcher, Lead Nurse, Clinical Practice & Education/Senior Practitioner Lecturer at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Roseline has co-developed recruitment approaches with diverse communities and been awarded several commendations, including Advanced Nurse Specialist/ Nurse Practitioner of the year at the Black Healthcare awards. “Until you stand on the same side of the mirror with me, our perspectives would always differ”
Mr Steffan Gough
Steffan Gough MCIPD is an award-winning HR professional, Cultural Intelligence Facilitator, Schwartz Round practitioner and is currently Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Steffan is passionate about developing anti-discriminatory and equitable practices to ensure culturally safe and competent services in healthcare.
