Dr Andrew Lewington UKKA AKI SIG Medical Co-Chair

Dr Andrew Lewington has been appointed Medical Co-Chair of the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Special Interest Group (SIG), succeeding Professor Jon Murray, who has stepped down from the role.

Andrew is a Consultant Renal Physician and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in Leeds, with more than 20 years’ experience as a consultant and a longstanding clinical and academic interest in AKI. His work has spanned national guidance, education, quality improvement and research, including contributing to the NICE AKI guideline and Quality Standard and leading national and regional initiatives to improve AKI care.

He has also been closely involved with the work of the AKI SIG, contributing to the AKI Summit and leading workshops on contrast-associated AKI and AKI transfers. He currently leads regional AKI improvement work in Yorkshire and is involved in the Kidney Research UK NUTuRE AKI study.

Andrew will work alongside Multi-Professional Co-Chair Becky Bonfield and members of the AKI SIG to build on its existing programme of work.

Commenting on his appointment, Andrew said:

I aim to continue the impressive work of my predecessor Jon Murray and colleagues to further advance and improve the care of patients with AKI.”
