Becky Bonfield has been appointed as the new Multi-Professional Co-Chair of the UK Kidney Association's Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Special Interest Group (SIG), taking over from Clare Morlidge, who is stepping down from the role.

Becky is an AKI Advanced Clinical Practitioner with extensive experience in AKI care, service development, and quality improvement. Her appointment strengthens the SIG’s multi-professional leadership and reflects the breadth of expertise that underpins the group’s work.

Commenting on her new role, Becky said:

“I’m delighted to have taken on the role of UKKA AKI SIG Multi-Professional Co-Chair. It’s a privilege to help lead a group that plays such an important part in improving outcomes for people with or at risk of acute kidney injury across the UK. The SIG’s multi-professional approach—bringing together expertise in data, education, governance, and improvement—creates a powerful platform for meaningful, system-wide impact.

In this role, I’m looking forward to supporting national priorities in AKI care, and helping to drive a programme of work that is already making a real difference.”

The AKI SIG brings together clinicians, scientists, and multi-professional team members from across the kidney community to advance best practice in AKI prevention, detection, and management. The group contributes to guidance development, education, audit and quality improvement, and collaborative projects aligned with national priorities.

The UKKA thanks Clare Morlidge for her leadership and contribution to the SIG and looks forward to Becky’s work in this role.
