12 August 2025

We have opened applications for our 2026 Experiential Leadership Programme – a 12-month, hands-on development opportunity for early- to mid-career kidney professionals from all disciplines.

The programme is designed to build the next generation of leaders in kidney care, offering participants the skills, experience and networks to lead change at local, regional and national levels. With the NHS placing greater emphasis on community-based care, there is an urgent need for confident, collaborative and adaptive leaders who can guide services through change while maintaining consistency and sharing learning across centres.

Two routes to develop your leadership

Participants can choose between:

  • Full 12-month Experiential Leadership Programme – three phases covering mentored shadowing, a bespoke leadership and change course, and practical project leadership

  • Leadership and Change Course only – a 3-month option (April – June) for those seeking targeted skills development without the full year’s commitment

Both options offer high-quality learning, national networking and CV-building opportunities.

What participants gain

  • Mentorship from UKKA Special Interest Groups, Professional Groups or Committees

  • Real-world leadership experience through national-level projects

  • Skills in emotional intelligence, change management, systems thinking and quality improvement

  • Opportunities to present work at national meetings, including UK Kidney Week

Programme timeline

  • Phase 1 (January – March): Orientation and mentored shadowing

  • Phase 2 (April – June): Leadership and Change Course and project planning

  • Phase 3 (July – December): Experiential leadership and project delivery

Who should apply

The programme is open to UKKA members who are early- to mid-career professionals in any kidney care discipline, with a passion for improving services, education, research or policy.

Applications will be assessed competitively on leadership goals, potential impact and alignment with the UKKA’s mission.

Deadline for expressions of interest: 30 September 2025
