Dr Alan Hancock has been named the recipient of the 2025 Terry Feest Award, recognising his exceptional voluntary contribution to the work of the UK Renal Registry (UKRR) and the wider kidney community.

Established in 2013, the Terry Feest Award honours individuals who have made a significant, often behind-the-scenes impact on the UKRR without formal recognition. It reflects the legacy of Dr Terry Feest, whose work was instrumental in establishing the Registry.

Dr Hancock, a kidney transplant recipient, has made a sustained contribution across UKKA and UKRR activity. A longstanding member of the UKKA Patient Council, he serves as a patient representative on both UKRR and RaDaR data groups, helping to ensure that patient perspectives are embedded within national data and research.

He has also supported the development of the UKKA Consented Cohort, including preparing documentation for ethics review, and remains active across wider kidney research and charity initiatives.

Dr Hancock is a member of the Kidney Patient Experience Report Measure (PREM) working group and has contributed to advancing the role of patient-reported experience and outcomes in improving care. His article in the Journal of Kidney CareThe Kidney Patient Experience Report Measure: why knowledge is power, reflects this focus.

Since retiring in 2015, Dr Hancock has continued to contribute extensively to public and patient involvement. His roles have included Chair of a local Patient Participation Group, founding Trustee of Healthwatch Milton Keynes, Public Governor at Milton Keynes University Hospital Foundation Trust, and Expert by Experience on the East of England Clinical Senate.

The Terry Feest Award is made annually, where a suitable nominee is identified, recognising outstanding unpaid contributions to the UKRR across areas including research, audit and service development.
