The UK Kidney Association, together with Kidney Research UK, Kidney Care UK, the National Kidney Federation and the Polycystic Kidney Disease Charity UK, has written an open letter to the Prime Minister urging the Government to recognise the growing burden of kidney disease and take meaningful action.
The letter highlights the lack of focus on kidney disease in the Government’s new 10-Year Health Plan for England, despite kidney disease affecting over 7 million people in the UK and being the third fastest-growing cause of death worldwide. It calls for a national strategy to detect, prevent and manage kidney disease – a condition that is closely linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
We are now inviting patients, clinicians, families and supporters to add their names in support of the letter. The final version, complete with signatures, will be formally delivered to the Prime Minister.

Alongside the open letter, the same group of charities has sent a formal letter to Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, welcoming the broader ambition of the 10-Year Plan but urging the Department of Health and Social Care to include kidney disease in the development of new National Service Frameworks. The letter sets out the urgent case for prioritising kidney health and the cost of inaction to both the NHS and wider economy.
Both letters reflect a unified voice across the kidney community – from professionals to patients – calling for change.
