The appointment of a new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care marks the next opportunity to make the case for a Kidney Disease Modern Service Framework. Today, the kidney community has written to ensure kidney disease remains firmly on the Government's agenda.

The UK Kidney Association has joined Kidney Care UK, Kidney Research UK, the National Kidney Federation and PKD Charity in writing to Yvette Cooper, the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

The joint letter calls for a dedicated Kidney Disease Modern Service Framework to improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment and long-term care for the seven million people living with kidney disease across the UK. It also sets out the growing impact of kidney disease on patients, the NHS and the wider economy, and highlights why a dedicated national framework is needed to drive innovation and improve outcomes.

Over the past nine months, the UK Kidney Association has been working alongside Kidney Care UK, Kidney Research UK, the National Kidney Federation and PKD Charity through the 7 Million Lives at Risk campaign to develop proposals for a dedicated Kidney Disease Modern Service Framework.

Writing to the Secretary of State ensures that this work continues with the new Government from the outset. The UK Kidney Association and its partners look forward to working with ministers to develop a dedicated Kidney Disease Modern Service Framework that delivers lasting improvements for patients, professionals and kidney services across the UK.
