Professor Jonathan Murray has been elected as our next Clinical Vice President (Medical) of the UK Kidney Association following a vote by UKKA members.
Jon is a Consultant Nephrologist at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and has worked in Middlesbrough for more than 14 years. His contributions to the UKKA span clinical guidance, education, patient involvement and national policy.
Dr Katie Vinen, UKKA President (Medical), said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Jon to the Board of Trustees. His experience, including his outstanding leadership of the AKI SIG and his commitment to both excellent clinical care and education will be a valuable addition to the UKKA leadership”
Jon helped establish the UKKA Acute Kidney Injury Special Interest Group and served as its Medical Co-Chair for five years. He organised the UKKA AKI Summit with seven partner organisations, resulting in 24 jointly endorsed consensus recommendations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also co-led the development of UKKA guidance addressing national dialysis resource shortages.
His wider work includes contributions to the UKKA Patient Council, mentoring through the Leadership and Change Programme and clinical leadership within the 7 Million Lives at Risk campaign.
As Clinical Vice President (Medical), Jon will bring medical members’ perspectives into Board discussions and decisions about the UKKA’s priorities. Working closely with fellow trustees, professional groups and committees, he will help shape and deliver the Association’s strategy across clinical care, education and policy.
Collaboration with patients, multiprofessional colleagues and national partners will be central to this work, building on his experience of translating shared priorities into practical recommendations and improvements in care.
Thank you to both candidates for standing and to all members who voted. Please join us in welcoming Jon to the Board of Trustees and into his new role.
