Dialysis Academy 26 RSMxDA26

December 10 - December 11

Join the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Nephrology Section for Dialysis Academy 2026, a two-day hybrid meeting exploring the future of dialysis through personalised, home-based, innovative and sustainable approaches to care. Each day has a distinct focus, from personalising dialysis care to exploring emerging developments shaping the future of the specialty.

Why attend?

  • Gain practical insight into personalised and home-based dialysis, from incremental and twice-weekly prescriptions to wearable and portable technologies
  • Discover how artificial intelligence, remote monitoring, haemodiafiltration and next-generation dialysis technologies could reshape future practice
  • Take part in the Great Debate and Controversies Session — two interactive sessions tackling the most contested questions in dialysis care through audience voting and expert panel discussion
  • Network with colleagues from across the multidisciplinary renal community and share approaches to improving dialysis services.

Day 1: Personalising dialysis care
Explore how dialysis can be tailored to individual patients, with a focus on personalised prescriptions, home therapies and care for older and frail patients. Covering incremental and twice-weekly dialysis, home dialysis pathways, vascular access and approaches to improving patient experience, the programme will examine how these approaches can support personalised care.

Learning outcomes
By attending Day 1, participants will be able to:

  • Describe current approaches to personalised haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis
  • Evaluate the role of incremental and twice-weekly dialysis in selected patients
  • Discuss approaches to home dialysis and shared decision-making
  • Recognise best practice in vascular access planning and management
  • Apply evidence-based approaches to improve dialysis care for older and frail patients, including frailty assessment and shared decision-making.

Day 2: The future of dialysis
Explore emerging developments that could shape the future of dialysis, from artificial intelligence and remote monitoring to new dialysis technologies and more sustainable care. The programme will also examine microplastics in dialysis systems, haemodiafiltration and other areas of emerging research.

Learning outcomes
By attending Day 2, participants will be able to:

  • Describe emerging developments in dialysis technology and their potential clinical applications
  • Evaluate the role of artificial intelligence, digital innovation and remote monitoring in dialysis care
  • Discuss the potential biological effects of microplastics in dialysis systems
  • Identify practical approaches to reducing the environmental impact of dialysis
  • Apply current research findings and service innovations to identify improvements in local dialysis practice and service delivery
  • Evaluate current evidence on haemodiafiltration, dialysis membranes and biocompatibility and their implications for clinical practice.

Who should attend?
This meeting is suitable for:

  • Nephrologists and nephrology resident doctors
  • Dialysis and renal specialist nurses
  • Pharmacists, dietitians, psychologists and physiotherapists working in renal care
  • Physician associates, advanced clinical practitioners and healthcare scientists
  • Vascular access teams and other healthcare professionals involved in dialysis care
  • Industry professionals working in renal medicine and dialysis technology.
