The UK CKD Guide

The UK Kidney Association’s UK Chronic Kidney Disease Guide is derived from NICE CKD guidance and relevant UKKA guidelines.

It provides quick online support for diagnosing and managing CKD in primary and secondary care, for use by healthcare professionals.

Patient information on CKD is available via Kidney Care UK.

Primary Care

The primary care guide was developed in September 2026 by Pooja Gudka.

The guide will be reviewed in full in early 2029, with individual sections updated sooner if there are significant changes to practice.

Secondary Care

This version was fully revised in September 2026 by Dr Laura Desai, and Dr Javeria Peracha.

The guide will be reviewed in full in early 2029, with individual sections updated sooner if there are significant changes to practice.

Early & Integrated CKD Knowledge Hub

Integrated CKD connects primary care with kidney specialists through shared data, agreed pathways, and workforce upskilling. This hub brings together e-learning, data dashboards, and practical tools to support earlier detection and reduce variation in care across the UK.

The Early & Integrated CKD Knowledge Hub was developed in February 2026 by Dr Kristin Veighey and Dr Rupert Major as a component of a larger programme that received funding from Boehringer Ingelheim. Boehringer Ingelheim has had no editorial input into or influence on the content.
