Advanced Nephrology Course

The UK Kidney Association’s Advanced Nephrology Course (ANC) is one of the UK’s leading educational programmes in nephrology. The intensive residential course brings together internationally recognised faculty and delegates from across the UK and overseas for expert teaching, case-based discussion and interactive workshops.

Covering the major areas of clinical nephrology, the ANC is designed to complement specialty training while also providing a valuable update for more experienced clinicians. The programme combines core knowledge with complex clinical scenarios, current evidence and developments in practice.

Advanced Nephrology Course 2027

5–9 January 2027
Corpus Christi College, Oxford

Registration is now open for the 2027 Advanced Nephrology Course.

The ANC covers a broad range of topics across clinical nephrology, from the fundamentals of day-to-day practice to complex and specialist areas.

The programme evolves each year, with topics typically spanning:

  • chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular risk
  • acute kidney injury
  • kidney transplantation and immunosuppression
  • haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis
  • fluid, electrolyte and acid-base disorders
  • glomerular disease and vasculitis
  • kidney disease in pregnancy
  • genetics and inherited kidney disease
  • rare and complex kidney conditions
  • conservative kidney management

The breadth of the course makes it possible to revisit core areas of nephrology while also spending time on conditions and clinical scenarios that may be encountered less frequently in everyday practice.

Putting knowledge into practice

The ANC is deliberately interactive. Alongside lectures from specialist faculty, delegates take part in small-group workshops, case discussions and sessions centred on clinical decision-making.

Rather than simply reviewing the evidence, these sessions explore how it translates into practice: working through investigations, weighing different management options and discussing challenging cases with faculty and fellow delegates.

This combination of structured teaching and practical discussion is a central part of the ANC and allows complex areas of nephrology to be explored in greater depth.

Who is the course for?

The ANC has an established role in postgraduate nephrology education and is particularly popular with nephrology trainees from the UK and overseas.

It is also valuable for consultants and other experienced clinicians looking for an intensive refresher across nephrology, including areas they may encounter less frequently in their usual practice.

For those preparing for specialist nephrology examinations, the breadth and depth of the programme also provides valuable preparation across many of the areas of knowledge and clinical practice covered in postgraduate assessment.

The ANC experience

The residential format provides dedicated time away from day-to-day clinical work to concentrate on nephrology, with teaching, workshops and discussion taking place throughout the course.

Time outside formal sessions also provides opportunities to continue conversations with faculty and connect with colleagues from different centres and healthcare systems.

The course is held at Corpus Christi College in the heart of Oxford, providing a distinctive setting for one of the UK Kidney Association’s major educational programmes.
