Your kidney health record

Being able to see test results and other health information can help people living with kidney disease understand their kidney condition and take part in decisions about their care.

The UK Kidney Association works with kidney centres to make this information available online. We currently provide access through Patients Know Best (PKB), which replaced PatientView.

Access your record

If you already have a Patients Know Best account, sign in to view your information.

To get started, follow the registration guidance for kidney patients. Your kidney centre can confirm whether it is sending your information to the service.

What you can see and do

Depending on the information your healthcare providers supply, your record may include:

  • Test results and changes over time
  • Medicines, clinic letters and appointments
  • Care plans and information from your healthcare team

You can also add your own health information and choose to share your record with people involved in your care, including family members or carers.

Your record shows the information your kidney centre sends to the service. Other information, such as clinic letters and appointments, may also be available if your healthcare providers supply it.

PatientView to PKB

PatientView was introduced in 2005 to give people with kidney disease online access to information held by their kidney centre. It was developed with patient groups to help people understand their health and be more involved in their care.

Keeping PatientView up to date with changing technology and data security requirements would have required substantial rebuilding and ongoing maintenance. The UKKA chose Patients Know Best to continue providing access through an established personal health record platform.

Patients were consulted about the change, and the move was discussed and approved through the UKKA Patient Council.

How your kidney information reaches your record

You can choose to use Patients Know Best (PKB) to view your kidney health information online. Your kidney centre can help you connect your record so that information such as your test results appears in your account.

Our UK Renal Registry (UKRR) team manages the systems that securely transfer this information from participating kidney centres to PKB. The information displayed depends on what your centre sends.

If you would prefer not to use PKB, ask your kidney centre about other ways to receive your results.

Read Your data for information about how the UKKA uses and protects patient information, including your choices about its use.

Contact your kidney centre to check that your information is being sent to PKB. For further help with the transfer of kidney information through UKKA, contact: pkb-support@ukkidney.org

Your kidney team can explain your results and answer questions about your care.

Patients were consulted about the change from PatientView to PKB. The move was also discussed and approved through the UKKA Patient Council.
