APPM formulary supplement available

Prescribing in Chronic Kidney Disease 1st edition 2025

We are delighted to announce that the Association for Paediatric Palliative Medicine formulary supplement ‘Prescribing in Chronic Kidney Disease’ is now available to download from the APPM website. The formulary supplement provides extra support for managing chronic kidney disease in a palliative care context.

Each of the 100+ drugs in the formulary has been rated by kidney function impact: Green (no adjustment), Amber (adjustment needed), and Red (generally not recommended).

The guidance should be used alongside the main formulary, considering polypharmacy and starting doses cautiously. Sections in the supplement are organised by symptom for easier identification of safer alternatives.
