Date: November 3rd, 2026

The UK Kidney Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Gavin Dreyer as Honorary Secretary and a member of the UKKA Trustee Board.

As Honorary Secretary and Trustee, Gavin will work alongside fellow Board members to support the governance and strategic direction of the Association. His areas of work will include supporting the development of a Medical Committee, managing consultations and special projects, and developing the UKKA’s work around CKD and mental illness.

Gavin is a consultant nephrologist and acute physician at Whipps Cross Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. Working in a district general hospital in East London has shaped his commitment to ensuring that improvements in kidney care reach patients across different communities and healthcare settings.

He has played a leading role in work to understand and address inequalities in kidney health, co-leading two national reports, including Kidney Research UK’s Time to Act. He has also developed a partnership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists to strengthen understanding of the links between mental and physical health in people living with kidney disease.

Gavin has served as Medical Co-Chair of the UKKA Chronic Kidney Disease Special Interest Group, helping to bring together expertise and experience from across the kidney community. He will now step down from this position to focus on his new responsibilities.

Gavin said:

“I am delighted and excited to have been appointed as a Trustee and the Honorary Secretary of the UKKA. I am going to stand down as the Medical Co-Chair of the CKD Special Interest Group to allow me to focus on a new portfolio. This will include supporting and developing a Medical Committee, managing consultations and special projects and building on the overlap between CKD and severe mental illness and how this relates to the UKKA and our membership. I’m looking forward to working with the whole UKKA trustee team!”

Gavin brings substantial clinical, organisational and partnership experience to the Trustee Board, alongside a strong commitment to equitable kidney care, patient involvement and collaboration across the four UK nations. Please join us in welcoming him to the UKKA Board of Trustees.
