Education & Training

The Education and Training Committee guides the UK Kidney Association’s approach to education, training and professional development. It identifies learning needs across the kidney community and helps ensure that UKKA education remains relevant, accessible and responsive to changing professional practice.

The committee works with UKKA professional groups, Special Interest Groups, course leads and other contributors to develop and review educational opportunities for healthcare professionals, scientists and researchers at different stages of their careers.

Advanced Nephrology Course

The Advanced Nephrology Course is an annual course covering a broad range of topics across nephrology. It is designed primarily for resident doctors preparing for the European Specialty Examination in Nephrology, as well as consultants and other experienced professionals wishing to update their knowledge.

The course is developed and delivered by its own organising group. The Education and Training Committee receives updates on the course and contributes to the review of its content and participant feedback.

The UKKA also runs an ESENeph Revision Day between editions of the main course, providing additional support in line with the examination timetable.

Developing education with the UKKA

UKKA members and groups can propose courses, webinars and other content for the Education Hub. Proposals are considered according to the learning need, intended audience, quality and relevance of the content and whether suitable resources already exist.

Members may also contribute to educational projects as authors, reviewers, speakers or facilitators.
