Kidney nurses are at the forefront of patient care, combining specialist knowledge, technical expertise and compassionate support across every stage of the patient pathway. Their contribution extends far beyond clinical care – driving education, service development, quality improvement and innovation throughout kidney services.
UKKA membership provides opportunities to connect with colleagues, share expertise and access education and resources that support your professional development and help you stay connected to the wider kidney community.

Lead Nurse for the London Kidney Network
I joined the UK Kidney Association in 2024. I joined because I wanted to be part of a multidisciplinary kidney community where nurses have an equal voice in shaping the future of kidney care. As nurses, we bring unique clinical expertise, practical insight and strong partnerships with patients, other professionals, kidney networks, commissioners, and private providers. I wanted to help ensure that both the nursing and patient voices are represented.
Since joining, I’ve had the privilege of becoming the Multi-Professional Team (MPT) Co-Chair of the UKKA Sustainable Kidney Care Committee. This has opened new opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, learn from colleagues, influence national and international conversations, and share good practice. It has also enabled me to play a pivotal role in facilitating a postgraduate Sustainable Kidney Care Course, helping to equip different teams with the knowledge, skills, and resources to lead Quality Improvement in sustainable kidney care.
I would encourage more nurses to become members of the UKKA. It’s an opportunity not only to learn and connect with colleagues across the UK, but also to participate, influence, lead change and help shape the future of kidney care together.
Year after year, nurses are consistently voted among the most trusted professionals in the UK. If we all use that trusted and credible voice, working alongside our multidisciplinary colleagues and patients, we have a tremendous opportunity to drive innovation, improve outcomes, and make a lasting difference to kidney care.
The future of Sustainable Kidney Care will be shaped through collaboration, and nurses have an essential role to play in that journey.
