I joined the UKKA as a trainee over 30 years ago, and it quickly became much more than a professional association — it was a community. It gave me the opportunity to connect with colleagues, exchange ideas, share research and innovation, and learn from the expertise and generosity of others across nephrology.

I believe that the spirit of contribution and collaboration is more important than ever. The future of nephrology depends on all of us continuing to shape and strengthen our specialty, and the UKKA provides outstanding opportunities to make a difference through education, research, leadership and professional development.

It has been a huge privilege to give back to a community that has given me so much — from chairing the UKKA International Committee, to serving on the Education and Training Committee, and co-chairing the Advanced Nephrology Course, among other roles.

I would encourage colleagues at every stage of their career to get involved. The UKKA is not only a place to develop professionally — it is a place where you can contribute, collaborate and help shape the future of kidney care.
