Renal pharmacy is a highly specialised field, with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians often working in small teams spread across kidney centres throughout the UK. Through the UK Renal Pharmacy Group (UKRPG), UKKA membership connects you with a national network of colleagues facing similar challenges and opportunities in practice.
Whether you are looking to share expertise, discuss complex medicines issues, learn from innovative services or keep up to date with developments in renal pharmacy, UKKA membership provides access to the people, resources and networks that support specialist practice.
NIHR Doctoral Fellow/Renal Pharmacist
I joined the UK Renal Pharmacy Group (UKRPG) in 2019 when I started my renal pharmacist post at the Oxford Kidney Unit. The renal pharmacy team I am part of has historically been very actively involved in the UKRPG, so it was a natural step for me to take up this opportunity to network with the wider professional community through national conferences and other activities. When the UKRPG was integrated into the Renal Association back in 2021, it was initially unclear to me what the impact was going to be. However, I soon realised the vast positive impact and the countless opportunities this integration brings to both my professional and personal development.
Currently, I am undertaking the UKKA Experiential Leadership Course. I sit on the In-Centre Haemodialysis Special Interest Group as a member. I am also the Co-Chair of the UKRPG Research Subgroup.
Both the UKKA and UKRPG are very welcoming communities. Being part of the UKKA allows me to move beyond traditional professional boundaries to work with clinicians from a wide range of backgrounds. The level of interdisciplinarity across the UKKA also means we can create a wide-reaching impact on the advancement of our professions and on delivering exemplary kidney care for patients synergistically. For pharmacists who are passionate about kidney care and are eager to develop their professional skills, joining the UKKA/UKRPG is undoubtedly the right decision!
